CITIZENS ON PATROL
Citizen’s on Patrol is a team of dedicated citizen’s that patrol the neighborhood’s of their community.  They serve as an extra set of eyes and ears for the police department.  This dedicated team sends a clear message to the community that it wants to reduce crime and improve life.  Other cities have similar programs and it has shown to reduce crime by patrolling more areas of the city when Police officers are at other calls for service and give citizen’s an opportunity to help in their community.

Team members wear a C.O.P. uniform that consist of a white uniform shirt with Kerman PD patches, black uniform pants, and a belt with various items which include a flashlight, latex gloves for emergencies, radio, and pepper spray (with proper training).  Members will be able to patrol the city is a special marked patrol car and aid fellow police officers in various duties such as traffic control accident scenes, searching for missing persons, etc.  Members will be able to engage in police radio traffic to communicate with fellow Kerman Police officers when an emergency situation arises.  Other duties of this team is to assist at special events such as the Harvest festival, National night out, fireworks show, high school football games, and parades. 

The department is currently accepting applications for new members.  This is a non-paid, volunteer position and members are required to purchase their uniform and some equipment carried on their belt. 

Minimum requirements for this position include:

·        Be at least 21 years of age.

·        Possess a valid California Driver’s License.

·        Maintain a satisfactory driving record.

·        Free of Felony Convictions.

·        No Misdemeanor convictions in the past 2 years.

·        Pass background check, oral interview and applicable training.

·        Perform a minimum of 10 hours of service a month and any additional training.
