Kerman Police Department accepts applications on a continuous basis.  Successful applicants must meet the below qualifications for each position.

The hiring process for sworn Police Officers and Reserve Police Officers consists of:

Oral Board
Polygraph
Background
Psychological Exam
Medical Examination

Benefits for sworn personnel

10 days of vacation starting (increasing with time on) and 10 days sick time per year.
Medical, dental, optical and life insurance paid by city at 100% for the employee and 75% for dependants.
2 @ 55 Pers paid by City. Initial uniform provided by city with a monthly uniform allowance of $83.50.
11 paid holidays per year.

POLICE SERGEANT:

Pay Rate: $4,610.00 - $6,177.00

Minimum Requirements:

1. P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate, with a minimum of two years experience as a full time Officer in California.
2. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
3. Free of Felony convictions.
4. Posses a valid California Driver's license.
5. Pass a 18 month probation period.
6. Agree to mandatory random drug testing, and annual physical agility performance exam.

PATROL CORPORAL

Pay Rate: $3,865.00 - $5,179.00

Minimum Requirements:

Essentially the same as for Sergeant

PATROL OFFICER

Pay Rate: $3,505.00 - $4,697.00

Minimum Requirements:

1. Completion of a P.O.S.T. certified Basic Academy.
2. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
3. Free of Felony convictions.
4. Posses a valid California Driver's license.
5. Pass a 18 month probation period.
6. Agree to mandatory random drug testing, and annual physical agility performance exam.

RESERVE OFFICER LEVEL 1

Pay Rate:  $15.00 per hour no benefits.

Minimum Requirements:

Same as those of PATROL OFFICER.

This is a training position for full time Officers.  You will do a full FTO (Field Training Officer) for 14 weeks at full time hours and will be prepared to take over full time status as positions come open.  If no full time positions are available the Level 1 Reserve Officers will be used as Patrol Officers for vacation relief and shift coverage up to a maximum of 1000 hours per year.  Although the Level 1 reserve will do solo patrol while on duty they will not take felony calls with suspects.


RESERVE OFFICER LEVEL 2

Pay Rate:  Volunteer only.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Minumum of a P.O.S.T. level 2 certificate

All other requirements are the same as a PATROL OFFICER

COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER 1

Pay Rate: $2,321.00 - $3,110.00

Minimum Requirements:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Possess basic elements of good English usage, spelling and arithmetic; office methods and equipment.
3. Possess a valid California Driver's License.
4. Free of Felony Convictions.
5. Must provide a typing certificate that applicant can type 40 words a minute error free.
